African American Heritage Trail, Mount Auburn Cemetery

By Melissa Banta.

Published by the Friends of Mount Auburn.

Since its founding in 1831, Mount Auburn embraced all faiths, races, and backgrounds. A series of essays tell the story of an interconnected community of African American men and women who chose to be buried at Mount Auburn, including fugitives from slavery and reformers, lawyers and legislators, athletes and business owners, musicians and authors. The publication includes a map with locations of the graves of individuals featured on the African American Heritage Trail.
